Heavy-gauge stainless steel wires are twisted and tipped with a little loop to create the popular Vic Firth Dreadlocks. They're like a brush in that they create a thick multitude of attacks at the same time, and unlike a brush because they are anything but subtle.

Need some really cool sound effects? Hit anything with the Dreadlocks and you'll get a raspy, scrapy sound that's impossible to reproduce. They're especially popular as an alternative sound source in marching percussion because of their high articulation.
